"Don't just go to church. BE the Church." This was the invitation the churches of Plain City extended to their congregations and the larger community on September 5, 2010. The twenty one churches of the Plain City Church Fellowship came together to sponsor the second annual "Be the Church Sunday". Participating churches canceled their usual Sunday morning activities and worship services on September 5th to focus on serving their community.
Blaine Keene, president of the Plain City Fellowship, described the significance of the event saying, "We really believe we can do more together than we can alone. Last year's theme verses in Isaiah 54:1-4 challenges us all to 'Think Big' when it comes to being the Church in Plain City. This is only the beginning of what God can accomplish in the greater Plain City region as followers of Jesus Christ come together to share God's love in tangible ways."
Be the Church Sunday 2011 is open to anyone who wants to make a positive difference in the Plain City Community. Participants gather at Plain City's Pastime Park at 8:30 for a brief time of worship and prayer. Then they spread thoughout the community doing diverse service projects including activities like general maintenance and painting at Pastime Park, visiting residents at area nursing homes, washing windows at the local retirement community, cleaning gutters, feeding those in need and much more. After serving the community, participants return to Pastime Park to share a meal and celebrate God's involvement in their service experiences.
